Treats For Hot Days – Two Things You Don’t Want To Miss

Having fun in the summer doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. There are so many different simple summer pleasures to be had. Let me list a few of them for you.

Sitting on the front porch with a nice tall glass of ice tea watching traffic go by.

Laying in a hammock in the backyard listening to the birds, the rustling of the leaves and the chirping of the crickets. A relaxing nap is optional.

Get the kids outside with some water. Fill up some bucket or one of those little blow up pools, give them some squirt guns, or just fill up a bunch of water balloons from the dollar store.

Wearing all those pretty sun dresses hanging in your closet. Tank tops, comfy shorts and flip flops are another great option.

When is the last time you made homemade peach ice cream? Dig out the old ice cream freezer, grab some ripe peaches from a roadside produce stand and get to work. Let the kids help mix everything up and watch the machine do it’s magical work. Get out some bowls and spoons and dig in. Ice cream never tasted this good!

Summers are made for eating outside. Turn lunch into a backyard picnic or fire up the grill and cook hot dogs or burgers for dinner.

Get the kids into bathing suits, add some sun screen, grab your camera and then turn on the sprinklers. I’m willing to bet you’ll put aside the camera and jump into your own bathing suit after a few minutes.

Take the kids swimming to the same pool, pond, lake or beach you went to as a kid.

Check your local paper and websites and find a free outdoor concert to go to. Grab a blanket, some cold sodas and pack a picnic dinner to enjoy while you’re listening to the band.

For summer reading time with the kids, throw an old comforter and some pillows in the backyard. Just Hang Out with the kids and a few good books under the shade of the trees.

Take everyone strawberry or peach picking at a local orchard. Then figure out together What You’re going to make with all that yummy produce.

Is there still an old drive in theater close by? Pack up the kids (in their PJs) and go watch a movie or two (love those double features).

Go out in the backyard at night and see how many fireflies you can catch in a jar. Let the kids use them as a night light that evening, then release them the next morning.

Make a batch of pancakes for breakfast and top them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some chocolate syrup and of course a cherry on top. I’m sure your kids will love these pancake Sundays.

Last but not least, plan a trip to the beach, even if it’s just for the day. There’s nothing like sticking your toes in the sand and watching the waves roll in while your kids are busy making a sand castle.
